Sofa / Chair Buying Guide

Buying a new sofa or comfortable chair for your home has never been so easy, as there are so many types available these days and prices have fallen in recent years. Of the many types available, these are the most popular…

Traditional Sofas : Sitting a few people, and having an armrest at each end which is normally about half the height of the backrest, these types of sofas are a common sight in most living rooms. You can find one in pretty much any color or pattern if you take the time to look around. They are the cheapest type of sofa, though you can also find some very expensive high-end ones too.

Sectional Sofas : Sectional sofas range in length from six to ten feet, or even longer, and they can come in as many as eight pieces. They have multiple pieces, sometimes different in size and shape, placed together in a certain arrangement; often in the form of an “L” shape, but sometimes in a circular arrangement. Some pieces may have a right arm or a left arm, and some pieces may even recline. Sectionals are certainly one of the most versatile types of sofa that you can buy.

Sleeper Sofas : Sleeper sofas are a useful alternative to purchasing a bed for small living quarters. They provide seating for up to three people. All cushions can be removed and a mattress or large pillow can be pulled out of the inside to convert it into a bed. The disadvantages of a sleeper sofa are that they can be much heavier than other similar sized sofas when having to move them. Also, they can be less comfortable than a real bed which may interrupt your sleep.

Futons : A futon is a sofa chair (normally sitting just one person) which can be quickly and easily turned into a bed. The process of changing between the two takes just 10 seconds or so, as the frame is very light and versatile; in fact, sometimes there is no frame at all. They have been very popular in Japan for decades, partly because of the comfort that they provide and partly because they are ideal for using in small areas.

Tub Chairs : You will have more than likely seen tub chairs before, even if the name does not seem that familiar. Basically, they are single, upholstered (in one of a wide range of materials) chairs that have the back and arms of the chair merged into once semi-circular piece. They are very comfortable, and ideal for relaxing in whilst watching TV or reading a book. They add a certain elegance to any room, whether you opt for a whole set of them, or just a single one to complement the sofa and furniture that you already have in a room.
